Multi-agency law enforcement effort nets 164 arrests

Law enforcement officials from agencies in Onslow, Carteret and Craven counties came together during a Tuesday afternoon press conference to show how cooperation is helping take illegal drugs off the streets of area communities.
Operation Stars and Shields, a reference to the star-shaped badges worn by sheriff deputies and the shields worn by police and federal law enforcement, is a multi-agency, multi-jurisdiction undercover drug enforcement effort that has involved nine agencies from three counties.

SOUTH HERO, Vt. -- An arrangement for a man to meet who he thought were two teenagers for sex started with an accidental cell phone text message and ended with his estranged wife setting him up for a police sting, according to Vermont State Police.

Police said Jesse Arnold Read, 40, of Plattsburgh, N.Y., was charged with using electronic equipment to lure a child after he was set up by his 23-year-old estranged wife and her friend.
